WOW! |
|
In
response to the Bishop's Haiti
appeal and Rev. Patrick
Raymond's message last Sunday,
Grace parishioner's and friends
donated almost $2,700 to the
Haiti Project. This is above
and beyond the $800 in
special Easter donations made to
the project. Others are
continuing to inquire about how
they can help and what Grace can
do to raise money for those
afflicted. Your generous
response will truly have an
amazing impact!

Shelter Meal
|
|
|
You should have seen the whirlwind of children
who set up the guild hall with fruit and snacks
and prepared the tables for dinner. Thanks to
their energy and that of some wonderful food-
preparers, servers and cleaners, the April 7
meal was delicious and greatly appreciated by
the shelter guests. Come and volunteer in May
and be part of "sharing-of-the-bread" Call

Miroslav Volf to give free
public lecture
Can we forgive without God?
TONIGHT: Friday, April 18th,
7:30pm, 1100 Grainger Hall
Miroslav
Volf is a well-known
Christian theologian who
writes and speaks widely on
issues of forgiveness and
group conflict. Born in
Croatia, he has been deeply
affected, along with his
family, by the violence and
conflict of post-Communist
Yugoslavia. He is the Henry
B. Wright Professor of
Theology at Yale University
Divinity School, and
Director of the Yale Center
for Faith and Culture. He is
widely known for his work on
systematic theology, ethics,
conflict resolution, and
peace-making.
The
Vestry's plans for a Sunday
sermon and workshops on
forgiveness by Dr. Gayle Reed
have been postponed due to Dr.
Reed's health situation (you may
notice her listed in our
bulletin's prayer list each
week). Dr. Volf's focus on
forgiveness and reconciliation
will be a chance for those who
are interested to pursue the
topic immediately. I'm excited
to hear him speak, as I've been
meaning to read his books for
years. Hope to see you there!

Update
on Stan Richardson
As
many of you know, Stan
Richardson was scheduled to
have emergency hip
replacement surgery on
Wednesday. Rev. Carol Smith
visited Stan and Zoe
Thursday morning and gave
this further update from Zoe
just today . . .
-
Stan's hip surgery has been
delays as the doctors are
now focusing on fighting the
bacterial infection. -
Although this sort of
surgery involves a long
recovery and rehabilitaion
process, please know that
Stan is in excellent health.
We will update parishioners
when Stan and Zoe are able
to accomidate visitors and
any needs they may have. For
now let us pray for Stan's
recovery.
Please note that we are
very cautious about using
the church email list for
any emails besides Timely
Grace. However, due to the
number of phone calls and
visitors Zoe has been
receiving, we felt it was
best to communicate to the
entire parish Stan's
condition and Zoe's
wishes at this time.

UTO
Ingathering: Sunday May 11
The
United Thank Offering is a
long-standing tradition of he
Episcopal church. The UTO is a
way to give a tangible thanks to
God. We start with daily prayers
of thanks and then drop coins in
ourblue boxes. Twice a year the
blue boxes are collected or
changed to checks and brought to
church for an "Ingathering".
Every penny collected in the
blue boxes is given out in
grants around the world. Last
year St. James Church, West
Bend, received a grant of
$8,245 for kitchen renovations
and installations to improve
their monthly outreach program
of feeding the hungry. I invite
you to join this rewarding
tradition. Blue boxes
are available at the back of the
church.

Coordinator
